Legacies There are 2 main forms of Legacy:
a) A Pecuniary Legacy which is a specific cash sum which you mention in your Will.
b) A Residuary Legacy which is the residue of your Estate (or a share of it) after all other legacies, Inheritance Tax and expenses have been paid.
May we suggest the following wording: A Pecuniary Legacy...
I give to St. Luke's Hospital for the Clergy (Registered Charity No. 209236) (hereinafter called "the Charity") the sum of £................free of duty, such sum to be applied to the general purposes of the Charity towards the promotion of its objects. I direct that a receipt of the General Secretary or other authorised officer for the time being of the Charity shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my Executors for the payment of the aforsesaid legacy.
A Residuary Legacy... I give, devise and bequeath all (or a ......% share) of the residue of my Estate absolutely to St. Luke's Hospital for the Clergy (Registered Charity No. 209236) (hereinafter called "the Charity") such sum to be applied to the general purposes of the Charity towards the promotion of its objects. I direct that a receipt of the General Secretary or other authorised officer for the time being of the Charity shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my Executors for the payment of the aforsesaid legacy.

Codicils If you wish to add a Codicil to your existing Will, please use this form of statement and place it with, but do not attach it to, your Will.
